mPL6: Enhanced Multilevel Mixed-Size Placement with Congestion Control

چکیده
mPL6 consists of three basic ingredients: global placement by multilevel nonlinear programming [CCS05b], discrete graph-based macro legalization followed by linear-time scan-based standard-cell legalization [CX06], and detailed placement [CX06]. It is designed for speed and scalability, low wirelength results, adaptability to complex constraints, and robustness under low white space. Compared to the 2005 implementation [CCR05], the main improvements to mPL6 are

Implicit Heuristics to Mitigate Interconnect Congestion in a Multilevel Placement Framework
The congestion minimization techniques have become more important due to the shrinking geometries and “taller” interconnects, causing numerous design convergence problems. Also, multilevel placement algorithms are becoming more prevalant due to their ability to natively incorporate mixed-mode placement, in addition to their ability to scale to very large design sizes. In this context, we have d...
متن کاملMultilevel global placement with congestion control
In this paper, we develop a multilevel global placement algorithm (MGP) integrated with fast incremental global routing for directly updating and optimizing congestion cost during physical hierarchy generation. Fast global routing is achieved using a fast two-bend routing and incremental A-tree algorithm. The routing congestion is modeled by the wire usage estimated by the fast global router. A...
متن کاملQuantitative Studies of Impact of 3D IC Design on Repeater Usage
In this paper, we present our quantitative studies of the impact of 3D IC design on repeater usage. The repeater usage is estimated by the interconnect optimizer IPEM in the post-placement/ pre-routing stage, where the 2D and 3D placement are generated by state-of-art mixed-size placers mPL6 and mPL-3D. Experiments on a set of real industrial designs show that, through 3D placement, the total n...

In this chapter, we describe the robust and scalable academic placement tool Capo. Capo uses the min-cut placement paradigm and performs (i) scalable multi-way partitioning , (ii) routable standard-cell placement, (iii) integrated mixed-size placement, (iv) wirelength-driven fixed-outline floorplanning as well as (v) incremental placement.
متن کاملCongestion Control Using Multilevel Explicit Congestion Notification
Congestion remains one of the main obstacles to the Quality of Service (QoS) on the Internet. We think that a good solution to Internet congestion should optimally combine congestion signaling from network and source reaction, with the following as its main goals: minimum losses and delays, maximum network utilization, fairness among flows, and last but not least, scalability of the solution. T...
